Do you ever wonder...

What is this giant game of life all about anyway? I’ve been deep diving into my hidden closets and I keep coming up with that question...

What is this all for?

Why do I get out of bed in the morning? Why do I do what I do? Why am I in the relationships I’m in?

Do you find yourself asking similar questions?

If so…I feel you my friend! It’s not an easy place to be, asking and wondering, wtf?

AND….I hope you feel me on this one: I’d rather wonder this any day, than just float through life and do what “I’m supposed to do”!!!

Wondering what it’s all for is a painful place because the answers are not quick to resolve. It isn’t a quick check within and you have a new agenda and itinerary for your life.

Nope, in fact it’s layered, it’s complicated and at the same time so ridiculously simple, it’s painful.

Through my deep dives and pain, I have continually come back to one constant: BREATHE. For real. That’s it. No matter what discomfort, what fear, what angst, the answer, and the way through, is through our breath.

Simple right?

If you are anything like me you can cognitively grasp that concept and also think I’m an alien for saying, "By breathing we will find all our answers"

So, I thought I’d break it down for you...

What does that even mean when it comes to breathing to find an answer? Start with taking 3 deep, intentionally slowed down, belly breaths. Breathe in for a count of 7 and out for a count of 8-9. On the next two out-breaths allow your mouth to open and let an audible exhale escape your lips.

Then, as you allow your breath to return to ‘normal’ bring your attention to your body, scan your body from the top down. Notice any sensations that draw your attention.

Now breathe and allow your focus to softly notice and feel the edges of that sensation, giving all your attention to the sensation and not making any meanings or drawing any conclusions. Curiosity is necessary.

That’s it, just keep breathing, noticing and being curious. Hang out with that sensation without concluding anything and eventually you will get some insight.

The insights that often arise are:

  • I need to rest
  • I'm missing ________
  • I'm so tired
  • I don't want to _________
  • I want or need connection
  • I'm pushing too hard
  • I'm hungry

And once again, if you are anything like me, when I’m trying to fix my issues or figure things out I don’t really have time for my deep down needs. Especially feeling tired or flat. I really don’t like feeling tired, I want to feel inspired and happy all the time.

What I discovered with that is...burnout. And, to the point that I was self-medicating when I felt tired or even a little low because I have a great life, I have everything I could possibly want (for the most part) and I should just be grateful.

Truth is we can have a fantastic life and circumstances AND feel sad, low, tired, etc.


I will put that on repeat for a while. My tired and flatter sensations and feelings do not define me, in fact, they inform me.

So, I hope you too can allow yourself to dive in, notice what is going on for you in there, and then meet whatever is being called for. Like - taking a nap, drawing, reading a book, going for a ride. Whatever brings that desire to fruition. You will appreciate it when you listen to your body!
